Complete and Partial Dentures

Complete and Partial Dentures

Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. If you have missing natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, replacing them will benefit your appearance and your health. That’s because dentures let you eat and speak easier than you could without teeth—things that people often take for granted. Dentures can be made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even improve the look of your smile.

Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing. Partial dentures are used when natural teeth remain. Both types are available as fixed or removable appliances (removable partial or full dentures can be designed as fixed dentures when dental implants are utilized).

Advantages of fixed dentures include:

  • Look, feel and function like natural teeth
  • Help maintain the natural shape of your face
  • More stable than removable dentures
  • Do not need to be removed for cleaning

Advantages of removable dentures include:

  • Usually cost less
  • Usually easier to repair
  • Easier to clean thoroughly
