Gum (periodontal) disease is very common; it affects people of all ages, and many people don’t even know they have it. Gum disease is caused by multiple factors and you can have gum disease without any clear symptoms. That’s why having regular dental cleanings and exams are so important. Signs of gum disease include:

  • Gums that bleed during brushing and flossing
  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Gums that have pulled away from your teeth
  • Bad breath that doesn’t go away
  • Loose or separating teeth
  • A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
  • A change in the fit of partial dentures
