Meet Dr. Stephen A. Bejarano

My practice philosophy has always been to treat my patients the way I would want to be treated myself. I realize that going to the dentist is not an easy thing for many people. I am committed to doing what I can to ease a person’s anxiety, calm their fears, and help them overcome any obstacles to caring for their oral health.

I have practiced dentistry since 1991 and have practiced at Glen Oaks Dental since 1995. I have always had a strong desire to help people in need and, as a practicing dentist, I feel fortunate to have the skills to help change a person’s oral health. In improving oral health, I also have a positive impact on the person’s overall health, leading to a better quality of life.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science, biology, chemistry, psychology – University of Minnesota, Duluth
  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery – University of Minnesota School of Dentistry

I have been very fortunate to be able to get to know so many of my patients on a personal level and really hear their stories. These strong connections inspire me to deliver the high-quality dental care I would want for myself and my family: minimally invasive, timely, painless, and designed to the individual’s situation. I genuinely want what is best for each person, their oral health, and their life.

In practice, I am passionate about spending the time required to listen and understand my patient’s goals and concerns. Rather than rushing through treatment planning, I explain the diagnostic findings and walk my patient through the pros and cons of the options, encouraging and answering their questions. Helping my patient make informed treatment decisions is core to how I practice: I want each person to be educated, engaged, and excited in caring for their smile’s health.

Continuing Education, Professional Affiliations, and Volunteerism

Continuing professional education — meetings, lectures, seminars, study clubs — is essential. By staying at the forefront of emerging knowledge and trends, I am able to provide comprehensive care using the latest techniques and technology.

In addition to advancements in general dentistry, I seek out courses on comprehensive cosmetic care, multi-disciplinary restorative implant dentistry, endodontics, and denture reconstruction.

I am a member of the American and Minnesota Dental Associations and have been involved with the Spear Education study clubs for more than 15 years. Our small group meetings with other general dentists and specialists provide quality time to learn from each other. This is invaluable to me professionally and for the patients I treat.

Along with being in private practice, I volunteer clinical time for the Dental Lifeline Network of Minnesota. This allows me to provide dental care for seniors who are disabled or require medically necessary oral healthcare. It is professionally and personally rewarding to use my abilities and skills to assist those in need.

Beyond the Office

I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and have lived in St. Paul for more than 30 years. My wife — Dr. Elizabeth Rydell — and I met while in dental school. We were married the same month that we graduated! We have two grown kids who are both in healthcare: one is in medical school and the other is a registered nurse. We also have a Golden Retriever, Koda, who keeps us active at home.

I really enjoy being outdoors during all seasons and staying active when I’m not at work. Taking long walks with Koda, fat tire biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or spending time on the lake at our Wisconsin cabin fill many of my off-hours. I also have fun crafting pens and pursuing other woodworking projects on my lathe.

After family, travel and photography are my personal passions. The people and places that I have discovered while traveling have given me a greater appreciation for the life and opportunities I have experienced.
